Third teams the charm: Why Temple is the perfect landing spot for Quincy Patterson II

August 2024 · 3 minute read

Quincy Patterson II entered the NCAA Transfer Portal for the second time in his collegiate career. After stints with North Dakota State and Virginia Tech, the 6-foot-3 quarterback will be taking his talents to the Temple Owls football program.

"It's a shot to be the best me I can be, in a sense." Quincy Patterson II described his decision to move in an ESPN report.

"I told all the coaches, I didn't need any guarantees (to start). I just wanted a shot and take it from there and prove what I can do. I know a lot of people know what I can do. I just have to go do it."

Signed! Welcome to Temple, Quincy Patterson! 🦉

Quincy Patterson II made a name for himself as Virginia Tech’s signal-caller for three seasons. The Fan Arch athlete recorded 813 yards, six touchdowns, four interceptions, a 54.5% completion percentage, 660 rushing yards, and seven rushing touchdowns for the Hokies.

However, things didn’t work out between Quincy Patterson II and the Hokies, and he surprisingly transferred to the powerhouse North Dakota State. It didn’t take long for Quincy Patterson II to fit in with the Bison, as he led the team to a  7-0 record in games he started.

Quincy Patterson II rushed for seven touchdowns and threw for six more while averaging 5.8 yards per rush. He also completed 54.5-percent of his passes. But the injury bug struck hard, and he was forced to miss the rest of the season. Now, the former four-star recruit is turning over a new leaf and is looking to start fresh with Temple.

WORK WORK WORK !!! That’s all it takes. I’m nothing special I just care and know how much this game means to me !! https://t.co/sqwGBsVrIv

Temple, meanwhile, is looking to kickstart the coach Stan Drayton era following a disappointing 3-9 record last year.

Quincy Patterson II is arguably the most high-profile recruit to join Drayton’s bid to bring Temple back to relevance. Drayton is known for being a running-back coach in the NFL, but he certainly has a lot of tricks up his sleeve for a quarterback to thrive in his system. This is where Quincy Patterson II’s wealth of experience as a QB1 comes into play.

Despite his frequent transfers, Quincy Patterson II still has two years of eligibility left and he’s looking to make every second of it count. Temple will have an interesting QB situation in their hands, as former Georgia quarterback and Ohio State commitment D'Wan Mathis also transferred this offseason.

Quincy Patterson II will have some competition on his hands, but he’s definitely up for the challenge.
